Arlington Pet of the Week: Mason

This week’s Arlington Pet of the Week is Mason, who’s Australian by breed and all American by bandana.

Here’s what Mason’s dog mom Laura had to say about him.

Mason is a 1-and-a-half-year old mutt. His mom is an Australian cattle dog mix and is responsible for his beautiful blue eyes. Mason doesn’t know much about his dad, but he guesses that he might have been part Basenji given his physique and coloring. Mason’s mother was pregnant in the streets of South Carolina. He and his brothers and sisters were placed in a high-kill shelter until being rescued and transferred up to Pennsylvania where he met his now parents. Mason’s parents drove from Arlington to Scranton to rescue him because they were so drawn by his piercing blue eyes. He is often stopped by Arlington residents while walking around town that can’t seem to resist them either.

Mason is a lover of hikes, camping, long walks, and warm sunshine, and can be easily persuaded to do pretty much anything when peanut butter or ice cubes are on the line. He also enjoys playing with his fellow pup friends in his apartment building. In the summers, Mason can sometimes be found swimming at the Shirlington Dog Park or on Theodore Roosevelt Island. He used to be spotted frequently running on the Custis Trail, but his recent diagnosis with a severe heart condition has lead to the end of his running career. Unsurprisingly, Mason is not overly fond of vacuums, power tools, and other loud devices. He has hopes that one day his parents will adopt his future brother named Dixon. Overall, Mason is a resilient pup who loves fellow dogs, humans, and a good adventure. If you see him in Arlington, make sure to stop and say hi!
