Due to Rising Costs, This Company Has… Raised Wages?

by ARLnow.com Sponsor April 17, 2018 at 12:45 pm 0

Dear ARLnow Readers,

Well-Paid Maids is Northern Virginia’s first and only living-wage home cleaning service.

By providing customers with an ethical alternative in the home cleaning industry, we hope to show that businesses can thrive while paying a living wage in an industry known for worker exploitation.

All of our staff members are employees, not contractors. They earn a living wage and receive a full benefits package, including health and dental insurance, unemployment insurance, workers’ compensation insurance, disability insurance, paid family leave, 100% employer-paid commuting costs and 22 paid days off annually (5 sick, 2 holiday and 15 vacation).

As we all know, the cost of living in Northern Virginia continues to rise. In January, the MIT Living Wage Calculator updated its figures and determined the DC-area living wage to be $16.90. As a result, Well-Paid Maids raised its starting wage to $17/hour in February — $9.75 above the Virginia minimum wage. And while some companies try to push rising costs onto customers, our prices have not gone up.

For Well-Paid Maids, the living wage is not a feel-good branding ploy or throwaway ad copy, it’s who we are.
