Moms Demand Action — Arlington is teaming up with four local small businesses to brighten the summer for vulnerable children through its Plant Hope in the Community initiative. The Plant Hope Drive includes $10 to $50 bundles of games and books for children living at Doorways for Women and Families and children participating in elementary school food distributions.
Bundles can be purchased directly from businesses. Volunteers will pick up and deliver to organizations: Busboys and Poets, One More Page Books, One Two Kangaroo — call 703-845-9099 and mention Plant Hope Drive, Urban Farmhouse.
The group is also encouraging neighbors to Plant Hope at Home by painting rocks and flowerpots orange and posting coloring sheets in windows. The initiative is part of Wear Orange, a national effort to bring communities together and raise awareness of the toll gun violence takes on families and loved ones. Wear Orange Weekend is June 5-7.
