Every Thursday morning, the big green Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) truck pulls up behind the Woodbury Park/Frederick community center to provide much-needed food to low-income families living in the AHC Inc. affordable apartment community.
Usually, families gather in the community center chattering and laughing. This week the mood was somber, and everyone stayed a safe distant apart. As usual, staff warmly welcomed familiar seniors, parents and children. But it was harder to see their smiles behind the safety masks.
Lynn Borton, an AHC neighbor and supporter, generously crafted the masks for the staff helping residents during the pandemic. AFAC is one of AHC’s longest-serving community partners and provides nutritious food for hundreds of AHC’s residents. For many the food is a lifeline.
As AHC Resident Services Manager Ellen Mullan-Jayes says, “Bernard, our AFAC delivery driver, is definitely a hero! He always goes above and beyond to continue to provide food to our residents.” To help AHC neighbors cope with COVID-19 crisis, please visit the AHC website.
