Reading Is Fundamental of Northern Virginia, Inc. (RIF of NOVA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to motivate children to read by providing them with high-quality, free books of their choosing and to work alongside them, their parents and their community to make reading a fun and meaningful part of their lives.

Reading is Fundamental’s goal is to provide extra books for needy children in the RIF program in our Northern Virginia schools. After a successful first race in 2016, we are committing to make this our annual fundraiser. To that end, we plan to have a 5k followed by a 1 mile fun run for the children, who are encouraged to dress in costume for Halloween. In addition, we are offering incentives to RIF programs in the schools to make extra money for the books by forming team to run.

We will set up the same day registration for the event at 8:30 am at the Bluemont Shelter where the race begins, and will start the 5k at 9:30 am. We will announce winners and hand out prizes at the end of the race while runners eat light snacks that will be available at the shelter.
