David Brooks -New York Times columnist, cultural commentator, and political optimist – will join Tyler Cowen for a wide-ranging dialogue as part of the Mercatus Center’s Conversations with Tyler series.

David Brooks holds one of the most coveted spots in journalism today. As a weekly columnist for The New York Times, Brooks has become known as a “voice of reason” in today’s political debate. The range of his opinions falls into neither the Left or Right perspective as he offers diverse views on topics such as partisan politics, military intervention, sexual harassment, morality, education, social “bailing,” and more.

Brooks is a frequent broadcast commentator on PBS Newshour, NPR’s All Things Considered and NBC’s Meet the Press. He is the author of Bobos In Paradise: The New Upper Class and How They Got There, On Paradise Drive, and The Social Animal: The Hidden Sources of Love, Character, and Achievement. In April of 2015, he came out with his fourth book, The Road to Character, which was a #1 New York Times bestseller.

Mr. Brooks also teaches at Yale University and is a member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. He has been a senior editor at The Weekly Standard, a contributing editor at Newsweek and the Atlantic Monthly, and an editor and reporter at the Wall Street Journal.
