Tourists flock to Venice, Paris, New York, or Bangkok. What attracts us in these cities? What do we mean when we say this city or that city is beautiful? Can we articulate the criteria of their appeal and unique charm?
In this lecture, by mingling photos, personal anecdotes and quotes from poets and novelists, geographers and architects, Didier Rousselet will bring to life different facets of cities: sites, streets and squares, buildings, and monuments but also people and their activities, culture, history, and celebrations. He will illustrate the diverse beauty of towns, big or small, the one we live in, the ones we have visited, the ones we dream of.
Author, actor and stage director, Rousselet is currently living in Paris where he was born. For twenty years he lived in Arlington VA where he opened and directed Le Neon French-American Theatre (now closed). He has completed four long walks in Europe and written books about his travels. Having had the opportunity to visit and explore by foot countless towns in Europe, North America and other parts of the world, he is channeling his experiences and reflections in an upcoming book on the Beauty of Cities.
