Fabulation, or the Re-education of Undine, takes a satirical look at social stereotypes at both ends of the social spectrum. Undine Barnes Calles is a successful African-American business woman at the top of her game. When her husband suddenly disappears after embezzling all of her money, Undine heads back to her childhood home in Brooklyn’s Walt Whitman projects. Undine’s rags-to-riches-to-rags journey leads her to places like jail, the welfare office, and eventually a reunion with her husband. Through this painful but witty and funny journey, Undine learns about the importance of family.
With set design by local actor and designer, Matt Liptak and lighting design by Marzanne Claiborne, the cast of Fabulation, or the Re-education Undine features: Tanya Baskin, Gayle Carney, Kristra Forney, Lexie Lounsbury, Marcela Onyango, Alex Lopez, Manuel McCoy, Terry Spann, Carlos Ramirez, and Reginald Gardner.
Fabulation contains strong language and deals with mature themes and is suggested for audiences 17 years and older.
Port City Playhouse is entering a period of reinvention and has moved further inland to a new performance venue and an exciting partnership with Sleepy Hollow United Methodist Church to support Port City’s longstanding reputation for staging plays that are outside of the usual community theatre repertoire and/or that are of significant historical or human importance.
