Major League Quidditch (MLQ) is coming to Arlington on Saturday, July 1.
The Washington Admirals are hosting a three-game series against their division rival, the New York Titans, at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are available here.
Quidditch is a gender-integrated, full-contact sport particularly popular on college campuses around the world. The rules were adapted from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter book series in 2005, incorporating elements of basketball, rugby and dodgeball.
Today, quidditch is on its way to becoming a professional sport. MLQ, a national league that runs from June 1 to Aug. 31, is home to 16 teams across the United States and Canada.
Washington and New York have historically played very close games. The teams are expected to be evenly-matched again this season.
The Admirals held open tryouts in April. The team includes many former players from top college quidditch programs like the University of Maryland and the University of Virginia.
