Washington Antiquarian Book Fair
The Washington Antiquarian Book Fair will once again open its doors to book collectors as it hosts over 70 fine booksellers from around the country. Now in its 39th year, the Book Fair gives visitors a chance to touch, discover and purchase rare books, manuscripts, ephemera, maps, and more.
The Book Fair offers collections in virtually every area of interest imaginable: classic literature, science and medicine, geography, modern first editions, travel, sports, children’s and illustrated books and the arts. Buying is accessible as there are a multitude of price points.
Booksellers are teachers, historians, detectives and experts in their field and they are happy to share their extensive knowledge in areas such as Fine Edge Binding, Shakespeare, or Mapplethorpe. Two booksellers have exhibited at the Fair since its inception, Second Story Books (Rockville, Maryland) and The Family Album (Lancaster County, PA), will be with us again in 2014. Ron Lieberman of The Family Album, in an interview with the Washington Post said of the fair “the idea is to be exposed to the sensory pleasures old books bring … the smell and feel of the leather, the thick paper. A fair is a great place to touch stuff that seems like it should belong in a museum.”
Book Fair hours are Friday, March 7 from 5pm to 9pm; and Saturday, March 8 from 10am to 5pm at the Holiday Inn Rosslyn at Key Bridge, 1900 N Fort Myer Drive, Arlington, VA, 22209. A two-day pass is $14; tickets purchased on Saturday are $8.
