Delays on Westbound I-66 After Accident

There are some big delays on westbound I-66 after an accident near Glebe Road. Paramedics are currently trying to make their way through heavy traffic to the scene of the accident.

At 9:50 a.m., police on the scene said they were temporarily shutting down the highway while they move the accident to the side of the road.

Traffic had slowed to a crawl before the wreck, but is starting to clear out.

Eastbound was a nightmare this past weekend? FREDTERP

That stretch of 66 doesn’t need an accident to backup due to people’s inability to merge.

Not sure if this is the same wreck or there was another one after this but I passed a 3 car “wreck” on westbound 66 after Glebe Rd around 9:30 this morning. There was hardly any damage but these 3 cars were all in the left-hand lane blocking traffic while one of the drivers was taking pictures with his cell phone. Looked to me like they could’ve easily pulled off to the shoulder instead of backing up traffic for miles..

    • I believe that’s the same accident.

Despite “fender bender move to the shoulder” signs and common sense, ALOT of people insist on not moving their cars under the very false belief that they need to keep them where they are until police arrive – AND the false belief (in VA anyways) that minor damage accidents must be reported to police (the result of intentionally incorrect insistence by insurance companies)… Unless someone is injured to the degree that moving them is unsafe and/or vehicle damage is disabling – MOVE YOUR VEHICLES OUT OF THE TRAVEL LANES ASAP! And if damage is minor & everyone can cooperate like mature adults, exchange the necessary information and move on… Thank you =)
