Volunteers Needed for County Fair

by Katie Pyzyk July 26, 2011 at 2:04 pm 2,455 22 Comments

The Arlington County Fair is fast approaching, and organizers are looking for volunteers.

Help is wanted from August 10-14.  Volunteers are asked to attend an orientation session to learn about the fair and what opportunities are available. The first orientation is tonight and the other is next Tuesday. Volunteers will have the chance to win a door prize of tickets to a concert at the 9:30 Club.

If you’d like to volunteer, click here for the application, or email  [email protected] for more information.

There’s an Arlington County Fair? Been living here 7 years and I’ve never heard of it.
I might enter my Holstein cow in the livestock category. Ow maybe my giant pumpkin.

    • CW

Is there a category for baked goods, specifically cupcakes? I think I have an innovative recipe, and it should be a pretty easy division to win…

    • atown

If we can even bother calling it that. :-/ For a 10mi radius county, you can’t expect much I suppose… but a single cow would barely fit on the property. 😉

      • Fred

You’re right. If only the county owned an old dairy farm or something. Cows might be more comfortable there.

  • Do volunteers also need to be bilingual?

    • Mr. Brown

+1… +5 for Mongolian speakers and those familar with as-of-yet unidentified African dialects.

  • ArlingtonCoFair

@ CW: there is a category for cupcakes, though you’ll probably have lots of competition!

@ Overgrown Bush: Volunteers do not need to be bilingual.

    • CW

      Double sarcasm fail!

      • ArlTara

Maybe you should find better things to do with your time CW than pretend to be funny.

        • CW

Sigh…all I was saying was that both our comments that the Fair people took to be serious were just jokes to begin with…some folks just don’t get it…

Volunteering = working for free = socialism. ‘Nuf said.

It’s not a proper county fair unless Lee Greenwood, Night Ranger or Juice Newton are performing.

    • Lou

True. I remember seeing REO Speedwagon at the Fairfax Fair, years beyond their expiration date.

    • Tito Jackson

How about K.C. (sans Sunshine Band) – would that be acceptable?

    • This year you are more likely to get washed up Latin singers like Ricky Martin instead.

  • John Fontain

Katie has the pedal to the metal today!

  • othersideoftheriver

I wonder if they’ll bring back the pig-kissing contest between Barbara Favola and the other guy?

The fair is great if you’ve never been. There are shuttle buses from the career center so you don’t have to clog up the neighborhood or hike.

    • KalashniKEV

I’ve heard it starts with an Artisphere style “public-display-of-affection” for 15 minutes on Day One… Mehoo, do you have a date for this event yet?

I missed you at Rabbit last night, cutie! 😉

      • Liberace

Steppin’ out on me again, eh?

  • Rick

Do they need a well-dressed chicken?
