Synetic Cancels Show Due to Performer Visa Trouble

by Katie Pyzyk March 8, 2012 at 10:30 am 1,688 10 Comments

An upcoming show at Synetic Theater has been canceled because of a snag with obtaining visas for the performers.

Light in the Darkness, which was supposed to run from today through March 26, has been canceled. Three performances of The Voice of Anne Frank scheduled for March 14 and 19 have also been canceled.

The performers are part of Tantehorse Theatre Company from Prague. Four of the six artists have experienced delays in receiving travel visas, and therefore can’t make it into the United States.

Due to Tantehorse Theatre Company’s other commitments and engagements at Synetic Theater, the shows will not be rescheduled. Staff members hope to be able to bring the show to the area sometime in the future.

Synetic Theater is working to contact patrons with tickets for the canceled show to offer refunds or the option to attend a different performance at Synetic.

Um, the visa troubles came up the day it was supposed to open? You sure it wasn’t “Visa” rather than “visa?” As in, low /no ticket sales?

Something tells me they waited until the last minute or were inelligible for some reason. I’ve worked at a consulate before, there are many reasons visas get denied. Let’s not forget that every single person who has ever gotten a DWI or committed basically any other crime is banned entry into some countries, like Canada. If you have an issue, you need to deal with it as early as possible, you don’t wait until the last minute when it comes to getting visas.

Perhaps one of the performers turned out to be “Alexei Rodriguez, 37, of no fixed address”

        Probably not…

        We’re talking about European Artist/ Intellectual/ Professional types…

If he were a Gardener from some “other” country, he’d be more than welcome though- they make things “vibrant” for us by doing the crime that native born Americans “won’t” do!

You’ve gotta keep up. CC was referring to this, from the Crime Reports section:

INDECENT EXPOSURE, 03/05/12, 4200 block of Wilson Boulevard. At 6:20 am on March 5, a subject was seen masturbating in a public area of the mall while he was watching women exercise through a gym window. Alexei Rodriguez, 37, of no fixed address, was charged with indecent exposure and trespassing. He is being held without bond.

No, I know. He was insinuating that this Sex Bum was a Criminal Alien. They do the crime we Americans won’t!

I don’t think its really a visa problem, most likely a “do not fly list” or some other security flag that is preventing the Visa being issued. The embassy can crank out visa’s pretty quick if needed and they do so for people needing quick turn around but they can not challenge or correct DHS records and data bases which aren’t the most accurate or best maintained.

ICE must have found out that some of them were planning on enrolling in the APS system.

    Ummmm… hello, this is ARLINGTON!

Since when do we respect our own national sovereignty?

Any of you guys remember the Nova mall buttslasher? Turns out they did an episode on SVU about that very thing.
