ARLnow.com readers have spoken, and the photo above — “Morning Coffee at Iwo Jima” by Kevin Wolf — has been chosen as the best of the best in our pre-Memorial Day Summer Photo Contest.

The winning photo received 226 votes. “Fourth of July Fireworks from the Netherlands Carillon” by Clint Farrell was a close second with 210 votes, while our third place winner, “Douglas Park Fire Station” by Mary Troyan, received 183 votes.

Kevin, Clint and Mary will receive $100, $50 and $25 gift cards, respectively, to Fire Works Pizza in Courthouse (2350 Clarendon Blvd). Kevin will also receive a ARLnow.com tote bag. Thank you to Fire Works for sponsoring our contest and helping to give us give us some summer scenes to look forward to as we counted down the hours to Memorial Day weekend.

Here’s wishing you and yours a great holiday weekend, Arlington.

“…will also receive a ARLnow.com tote bag.” Are there ARLnow.com tote bags available for purchase? I’m looking to get some ARLnow schwag.

    • BallstonBen

it’s just a plastic grocery bag with “ARLNow.com” written on it in magic marker.

    • For now ARLnow.com memorabilia is not available for sale. If that changes we’ll be sure to let everybody know.

      • charles

Oh, c’mon, how hard can it be to write “ARLNow.com” on a plastic bag?

  • nunya

    congrats to the winners.

cant wait for those totes to make it on the black market.

    • CourthouseChris

Psst, I’ve heard rumors that Barton park becomes an open-air tote market on Thursday and Friday nights. There’s guys there that will hook you up with whatever tote you are looking for, Arlnow, PBS, NPR, PRI, you name it.

      • Poutana

Perhaps we can stage an Occupy WTOP to free up some tote cash.

    • charles

Excuse me, now it’s called the Market Of Color.

      • Nunya

        Urban purchase

  • WeiQiang

    I am underwhelmed.

… and keep that frog off my lawn!

  • whatever

not my favorite, but then, it wasn’t my entry

  • sunspot

if it weren’t for the multiple sunspots throughout the picture it wouldn’t be a bad picture.

  • Michael H.

I thought it was a funny picture, though the lighting of the frog could have been better. (Difficult while the camera is facing the sun, but maybe he could have adjusted the picture digitally.)

The fireworks picture is good, but we’ve seen similar shots many times before from many sources.

The fire station picture is also funny.

Congrats to the winners. Use those gift cards wisely, and only for good.

Congratulations to the winners! And thanks Arlnow & fellow sponsors for having this contest!

  • Buckles

    You’ve gotta be kidding me.

  • marie antoinette

Congrats to the winner. Thanks Arlnow for putting this together. In fact, this site blows Patch away. Thanks for your hard work!

  • charles

I kinda like the time-lapse one of the county fair ride.

  • Josh S

Well, at least it was a popular vote. Cause if some judges had chosen this one, you’d have to wonder if someone had spiked their drinks……

    • Douglas Parker

Instead, I’m left wondering what the ArlNow voters were drinking.

Step away from the PBR tall boy, you’ve had enough!

  • XVA

The frog and Marine Memorial photograph is unappropriate.

    • drax

Should it get off your lawn?

      • WeiQiang

Brah, you know that the ArlNow Blue Book requires that “any instance of removing any object, pet project, or puking children from any resident’s lawn must be expressed in the form of an exclamatory imperative (“you” understood). These sorts of removals may not be posed in the form of a question.”

    • BallstonBen

I don’t know, I’m sort of undifferent to it.

      • speonjosh

I’m still trying to figure out what it means/signifies. If this picture was removed from the face of the Earth, who would notice?

  • sunflower

the well-disguised starbucks cup is the un- appropriate item
