As it looks back on a year of achievement, the Crystal City-Pentagon Rotary Club has installed new officers and is forging ahead into the future.
Dr. Marina Theodotou has been elected to serve as president for 2024-25. Board members will include Kamel Frozanfar, Joseph Garland, Jade “Jax” Garnett, Christine Kras, Maria Kuecken, Stephen Leisge, Grace Mukupa, Susan Sheats and Alejandra Underwood.
For the coming year, the club aims to expand service to local and global causes. “Key focus areas for the upcoming year include veterans, education, arts and culture, and the environment,” the organization said.
“Our vision is to make a positive impact in these areas by strengthening community ties and expanding our reach through fundraising efforts,” the club said.
Among highlights of the club’s 2023-24 year:
• The Crystal City-Pentagon Rotary Club financially supported an 11-day mental-health and cultural-immersion camp in Poland for 50 Ukrainian refugee orphans ages 7 to 16, and club members traveled to Poland to participate in the effort.
• The club supported students at Wakefield High School through scholarships, and also supported the school’s “community closet” that provides clothes, school supplies and other vital items to students.
“These accomplishments reflect the dedication and hard work of our members, volunteers and community partners,” the organization noted. “We are grateful for the support and collaboration that made these successes possible.”
The Crystal City-Pentagon Rotary Club is part of an international network of more than 45,000 clubs with 1.4 million members within Rotary International.
