Yorktown, Tuckahoe swimming coach will be a guest speaker

Better Sports Club to host annual monthly evening event

The guest speaker at the Better Sports Club of Arlington’s Sept. 11 dinner meeting will be Torey Ortmayer, the head coach of Yorktown High School’s swimming and diving team during the winter and the Tuckahoe Tigers of the Northern Virginia Swimming League in the summer.

He’s also a coach for the York Swim Club.

Dating back to the 2021 season, Ortmayer has led the Yorktown girls team to three Class 6 state championships and a runner-up finish and Tuckahoe to three NVSL Division 1 titles, with a second.

Tuckahoe won this summer’s Division I crown for the second straight summer.

Ortmayer coached U.S. Olympic champion Torri Huske for four seasons when she swam at Yorktown.

Ortmayer is an Arlington native, attending McKinley Elementary and Swanson Middle schools. During the summer he swam for the Dominion Hills and Overlee teams of the NVSL in different years.

He was a student at Occidental College in Los Angeles, playing for the men’s water polo team.

Ortmayer was chosen as the Better Sports Club’s boys high-school Coach of the Year in 2022.

The Sept. 11 dinner, held at the Knights of Columbus on Little Falls road, begins at 7 p.m., preceded by reception at 6:15 p.m. Reservations are required, and can be set up by visiting the Website at: www.bettersportsclub.org.
