After the Falls Church Festival this past weekend, the Little City has a not-so-little lineup of events this fall.
From outdoor movie nights to the annual Halloween Carnival, here’s an itinerary of upcoming events.
Festivals and carnivals
- Pumpkins ‘N Friends Fall Festival this Saturday, Sept. 21. Hosted at Founders Row, this event from noon to 3 p.m. will include live music, pumpkin painting, carnival games, food, drinks, and kids crafts. 109 Founders Avenue.
- Oktoberfest at Settle Down Easy Brewing this Saturday, Sept. 21. A $30 ticket to the sixth annual Oktoberfest from noon to 6 p.m. includes a complimentary stein and pretzel necklace, one fill of beer, a bratwurst or a pretzel, a kielbasa skewer and a “Beer Line VIP” pass to skip the line. 2822 Fallfax Drive.
- Halloween Carnival on Saturday, Oct. 26. A costume contest, carnival games, inflatables and fall snacks are all part of the city’s annual Halloween Carnival. Entrance is free to kids in costume under age 11, but costs $1 for those not in costume or over the age of 12. This event runs from 1-5 p.m. at Cherry Hill Park, 312 Park Avenue.
Outdoor activities
- Park(ing) Day this Friday, Sept. 20. This annual event transforms ordinary parking spaces into temporary pop-up parks, encouraging residents “rethink the use of urban spaces.” Games and displays will be featured from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. 479 S. Maple Avenue.
- Farm Day on Saturday, Oct. 5. With a petting zoo, pony rides, pumpkin painting, scarecrow making and more, this annual event from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. is all about agriculture and farm life. Admission is free, but some activities require tickets for purchase on-site. Cherry Hill Park, 312 Park Avenue.
- Fall Community Clean Up on Saturday, Oct. 5. Volunteers should wear comfy clothes that are fine to get dirty at this event from 10 a.m.-noon. The city will provide trash pickers, bags, gloves and reflective vests. Participants will meet at the Community Center, 213 Little Falls Street.
- Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11. The ceremony takes place at 11 a.m. at the city’s Veterans Memorial outside the Community Center, 223 Little Falls Street.
Family movie nights
- Sunset Cinema outdoor movie screening this Friday, Sept. 20. The city will show “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” at 7:15 p.m. Suggested items to bring: blankets, bug spray and snacks. Some refreshments will be available for purchase on-site. Cherry Hill Park, 312 Park Avenue.
- Another Sunset Cinema screening on Saturday, Oct. 26 will show “Monsters University” at 7:15 p.m. Sweet treats from sweetFrog and other refreshments will be available for purchase. Cherry Hill Park, 312 Park Avenue.
- Family Movie Night on Monday, Oct. 28. Mary Riley Styles Public Library will show “Hotel Transylvania” at 6 p.m. The screening is intended for families and registration is required. 120 N. Virginia Avenue.
- A second Family Movie Night on Monday, Nov. 25 will show “Toy Story” at 6 p.m. The screening is intended for families and registration is required. 120 N. Virginia Avenue.
For the kids
- Fall Storytime from Sept. 9-Nov. 21. Taking place on Mondays and Thursdays, this event is intended for kids ages 18 months to 4 years. Mary Riley Styles Public Library, 120 N. Virginia Avenue.
- “Crafternoon” on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Kids in kindergarten through fifth grade will make pipe-cleaner pumpkins from 4:15-5 p.m. 120 N. Virginia Avenue.
- “Crafternoon” on Wednesday, Nov. 20. Another kids craft day at the public library will be spent making paper bag owls from 4:15-5 p.m. 120 N. Virginia Avenue.
