Wakefield football team gains 466 total yards but falls to Langley

The Wakefield Warriors certainly gained enough yards, but that production wasn’t enough to win.

The host Warriors amassed 466 total yards the night of Oct. 10 high-school football action, but lost to the Langley Saxons, 42-30, in Liberty District action.

Wakefield fell to 2-5 overall, 1-3 in the league. Langley improved to 6-1, 2-1.

Wakefield was led on offense by busy runningback Isaiah Ledbetter. He ran for 270 yards on 29 carries, including touchdown runs of 69 and 34 yards when he burst up the middle and was largely untouched by outraced defenders.

Wakefield had first-half leads of 7-0, 10-7, 17-7 and 24-21 at halftime. Langley took the lead for good by outscoring Wakefield, 14-0, in the third quarter. Wakefield was hurt by four turnovers.

Warriors’ quarterback Mark Williams threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns, and was intercepted twice. One of his scoring passes covered 27 yards to Andrew Walton, who had four catches for 107 yards.

Offensive linemen Leonardo Hoil, Ben Mitzen, Jack Smith and Abraham Velis were among those opening holes for Ledbetter. Top defensive players and tackling leaders for Wakefield were Ashton Hirst, Sean Perry and Devin Murray.
