Washington-Liberty wins district cheerleading crown, places third at regionals

The Washington-Liberty Generals prevailed as the champions of the Liberty District cheerleading competition, the squad’s first district title since 2013.

“This is huge,” Washington-Liberty coach Ghita Haronni said.

The six-team event began Oct. 15 with semifinal competition, followed by the finals on Oct. 23, both at Yorktown High School.

Washington-Liberty was second place after the semifinals, moving into first after the opening round of the finals. The squad then remained on top through the rest of the competition.

By winning the district title, Washington-Liberty qualified for the 6D North Region competition held last Saturday (Oct. 26) and finished third, its highest position ever.

Washington-Liberty cheerleaders are Ashley Baldelomar Arnez, Meredith Brasler, Molly Burke, Lindsey Claure, Kiara Guith, Jordan Henke, Patricia Hope, Elina Hosseinkhani, Charlotte Korb, Maniah Lewter, McKinley McGee, Roja Mendoza, Logan Milton, Nadja Petrovic, Reagan Robinson, Lexy Sanchez, Diana Tomas Diaz and Natasha Yushchak. Robinson, Petrovic and Yushchak are the captains. The coaches are Haronni and Chaimae Haronni.

Making first-team all-district for Washington-Liberty were Lewter, Milton and Yushchak. Chosen second-team were Robinson, Brasler and Henke.
