Halloween in Arlington brings costume contests, candy and ‘monster ball’

Halloween is tomorrow (Thursday), and many varieties of spooky celebration are coming to Arlington.

From a Bluemont costume parade to a “monster ball” at a Clarendon club, festivities for ghouls and goblins of all stripes are taking place starting tomorrow afternoon and continuing through Saturday.

Family-friendly events tomorrow

Halloween Paint Party from 3-5 p.m. Attendees will paint miniatures flower pots, canvases and plastic pumpkins at The Plaza at Mason Square. 3351 Fairfax Drive

Water Park Trick-or-Treat from 4-8 p.m. Kiosks at will offer candy, face painting, photo booths, balloon artists and pumpkin painting, plus “spooky drink specials” for adults. 1601 Crystal Drive

Bluemont Halloween Parade at 5:15 p.m. This costume parade for children will feature treats and cider. 747 N. Emerson Street, on Bluemont Junction Trail

Halloween Family Class from 5-7 p.m. At this event hosted by the Cookology Culinary School, attendees will whip up taco “graveyard cups” and “witch hat” cupcakes. Tickets are $55. 4238 Wilson Blvd

Adult events tomorrow

LGBTQ+ Halloween Party at Freddie’s starting at 6 p.m. Halloween costumes or casual beach attire are encouraged, and “scareoke” starts at 8 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items for the Arlington Food Assistance Center. 555 23rd Street S.

Halloween Party at Kusshi Sushi starting at 7 p.m. This event on Pentagon Row features complimentary buffet appetizers and a costume contest for gift cards and sake bottles. Admission is $30. 1201 S. Joyce Street

“Halloween” screening starting at 7 p.m. Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse is playing this 1978 horror classic. Ages 21+ unless accompanied by a parent. Tickets are $8. 1902 Columbia Pike

Lit Thursday: Halloween Edition starting at 8 p.m. Costumes are encouraged at Caspi Restaurant and Lounge during “a night of dancing, drinks and good vibes.” Free entry with RSVP. Ages 21+. 2901 Columbia Pike

The Annual Monster Ball starting at 8 p.m. This Clarendon Ballroom event, described as a “heart-pounding, drink-thrilling party through the most haunted bar in town,” will feature party favors, a haunted photo booth and cash prizes. 3185 Wilson Blvd

Magic Mic Halloween Show from 8-10 p.m. This is a free “open mic” magic show featuring local magicians and a costume contest. Ages 15+. The Filling Station at 4201 Wilson Blvd

Friday and Saturday events

School’s Out – Halloween Fun is from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Friday. Parents are invited to drop off kids ages 8-17 to cook a “pizza mummy braid,” “bubbling witch’s cauldron” brownies and pumpkin pie.

A Halloween Haunted Scavenger Hunt starts at noon on Saturday. Teams will race around the D.C. area, searching for Halloween-themed items and participating in challenges at landmarks, restaurants, schools and theaters. Tickets are $20. Rosslyn Metro Station at 1850 N. Moore Street

Nightmare on Wilson Blvd starts at 3 p.m. on Saturday. This Clarendon bar crawl will involve drink specials, a costume contest, free raffles, signature party favors DJs and bands. Tickets start at $15. Ages 21+. 2854 Wilson Blvd

A Haunted Carnival and an Afterlife Party, starting at 8 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, will continue the party at the Clarendon Ballroom. 3185 Wilson Blvd

Meatloaf’s Halloween Party starts at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Arlington Beer Garden will host a beer pong competition, a costume contest and a trip giveaway, along with two food trucks. 3217 10th Street N.
