O’Connell soccer team members earn all-conference selections

With the Player of the Year and multiple other honorees, the Bishop O’Connell Knights were well-represented on this fall’s all-conference girls high-school soccer teams.

Sophomore forward Audrey McKeen, who scored a single-season team record 37 goals this fall, was chosen as the Player of the Year in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference. She helped lead O’Connell to a 16-2-3 record, a Northern Virginia Independent Schools State Invitational championship (third in four seasons) and a second in the WCAC tournament.

“Audrey is a special player and a gifted athlete,” said O’Connell coach Alberto Starace, who was chosen as the WCAC’s Coach of the Year. “She’s a very good swimmer and would be a good player at whatever sport she chose to play.”

McKeen was a member of the All-WCAC first team along with teammates Bridget Prophett (senior defender), Molly Kinsella (junior defender), Rachael Zonavetch (junior defender) and Mia Morrill (sophomore goalie).

Chosen second team from O’Connell were Moira Kinsella (junior midfielder) and Ryana Dill (sophomore defender).

Honorable-mention choices were Molly Clark (freshman forward), Izzy Gorkowski (senior goalie) and Meeghan Zonavetch (freshman defender).

The Knights had 13 shutouts this fall and allowed just 11 goals, scoring 85.

Starace has been O’Connell’s coach for 39 seasons and has 542 wins with the Knights.
