Multiple O’Connell football players selected for all-conference teams

Standout defensive lineman Brandon Green was one of multiple players for the Bishop O’Connell Knights chosen to 2024 all-league football teams.

The 6-foot-1, 240-pound Green was a first-team selection on defense in the Metro Division of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference. The high-school senior tackle also was nominated for the Defensive Player of the Year.

Green made 77 tackles, including 18 for losses. He had 5.5 sacks, forced a fumble and blocked a field goal.

“For a tackle, 77 tackles is a ton,” O’Connell coach Todd Sabatino said. “He had a good season.”

Green was a first-year player for O’Connell. He transferred from public school McDonough High School in Maryland ,where he played last year.

Other first-team O’Connell players were senior tight end Scott Anderson, senior runningback Doug O’Donnell and senior utility player Joe Williams.

Anderson had 12 catches for 176 yards and two touchdowns, Williams ran for 109 yards and had 19 catches for 434 and four TDs, and O’Connell ran for 328 yards and caught four passes. He missed three games with an injury.

Making second team for O’Connell were quarterback Graham Deaton, defensive back Alex Vega, defensive lineman Sebastian Argote, offensive lineman Reagan MacGregor and place-kicker Josh Graham.

Deaton passed for 963 yards and ran for 72. He threw eight touchdown passes. Graham made four field goals, with a longest of 42, and 15 extra points.

Chosen honorable-mention were defensive back Nick Morris, defensive back/receiver Xavier Reid, tight end/defensive end Will Bryant, defensive player Josh Taliaferro and lineman Sam Casolini.
