Yorktown wrestlers win Capital Duals competition with 5-0 record

With multiple wrestlers finishing undefeated, the Yorktown Patriots won the team title at the Wakefield High School Capital Duals competition Dec. 15.

Yorktown finished with a 5-0 record with victories over West Springfield, Potomac Falls, West Albemarle, Riverside and Westfield. The 3-2 victory over Westfield secured the title in the eight-team event.

In the match against Westfield, freshman Tyson Clark and junior Nathan Bastuscheck got big wins to clinch the victory. Bastuscheck earned a pin in the first period.

Bastuscheck was undefeated at 132 pounds. Also with perfect records were Cambyses Khani (120), Eli Varona (150), Shuiab Mohibi (150), Neil Alleman (157), Jaden Arse (190) and Basheer Hadi (285).

On the same day but at a different tournament — at Madison High School in Vienna — Yorktown freshman Nesly Stahl reached the semifinals at 126 at the Madison Mash Up Girls Tournament.

Yorktown’s Charlotte Bowman won the title at 145 with a 4-0 record. She had two pins, won another match by forfeit and won the title match by a 19-3 technical fall.
