The Washington-Liberty Generals finished ranked 10th, 26th and 31st in three different final statewide high-school football polls for the 2024 season, as compiled by MaxPreps.com.
In the public-school-only poll of Class 6 — schools with the highest enrollments — the Liberty District champion and 6D North Region runner-up Generals (12-1) were ranked 10th.
The only 6D or 6C region team from Northern Virginia ranked higher than W-L in that poll was the 6D North region champion and Class 6 state runner-up Madison Warhawks (14-1) at No. 2.
In the public-school poll for all six enrollment classifications within the Virginia High School League, Washington-Liberty was ranked 26th.
In the overall poll that included all VHSL enrollment classifications in addition to private-school teams, the Generals earned a final ranking of 31st.
The 15-0 Class 5 public-school state champion Maury Commodores of Norfolk were ranked No. 1 in that poll. Class 6 state champion Oscar Smith (15-0) was ranked second and Madison ninth.
In a separate high-school statewide poll released by Sports Illustrated magazine for public and private teams, Washington-Liberty was ranked 17th.
The 12 wins were the most in a single season for Washington-Liberty in a century of football competition, and its region-final appearance was the first since the 1975 campaign, when the team also finished second.
