Two W-L fall athletes selected to VHSL Class 6 all-state teams

Two Washington-Liberty High School athletes in different sports have been chosen to all-state teams for their performances during the fall season.

Generals’ junior golfer Finn Watson and senior cross-country runner Emmett Engelhardt earned those Virginia High School League Class 6 all-state honors.

Watson won the 2024 Liberty District individual tournament championship, helping Washington-Liberty win the team title. Watson later finished second in the 6D North Region tourney and tied for eighth in the state competition.

Watson’s efforts helped the W-L team to its best season in program history. The Generals finished second in the region and fifth in the state.

Engelhardt won the opening meet of the season at Burke Lake Park, then went on to win Arlington County, Liberty District and other meet championships during the fall. He also placed fifth in the region meet and eighth in the state, running in that meet for the first time.

Also in golf, chosen to the VHSL Class 3 all-state team from the state-champion Meridian High School squad were Noah Peng and Alex Way.
