Wakefield track & field teams among top four at Episcopal meet

Led by Grace Armitage for the girls and Travon Buckner for the boys, Wakefield High School teams posted strong showings at a recent track-and-field meet.

The boys team placed third and the girls fourth at a multi-team indoor meet at Episcopal High School in Alexandria.

For the boys, Buckner won the triple jump with a leap of 43-feet, 11-inches, was fifth in the long jump and eighth in the high jump.

Second for the Wakefield boys were Liam Keish in the 1,000 and Chris Gilpin in the 55 dash. The 4×200 relay also was second.

Third for the boys were Ben Chapuis in the high jump and Diego Fernandez in the pole vault. Alex Epstein was third in the 55-meter hurdles and fourth in the pole vault.

For the Wakefield girls, the versatile Armitage won the 55 hurdles in 9.41, placed high in three other events and ran on the second-place 4×200 relay. She was third in the 300, fourth in the triple jump and sixth in the high jump.

Ada Jordan was second in the 500 for the Wakefield girls and fifth in the long jump. Madeleine Wearing was second in the pole vault and Hosanna Connor third, Corinne Breyault was fourth in the high jump, Leah Wargo finished fifth in the 3,200 and Dru Kukawa was fifth in the 500.

Wakefield’s 4×800 relay was second.

The busy Wakefield teams are scheduled to participate in meets Jan. 10 at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center in Arlington and Jan. 11 at Christopher Newport University.
