O’Connell boys win big in non-conference basketball contests

In recent private-school boys basketball games, the Bishop O’Connell Knights (12-3) routed Evergreen Christian, 77-44, and Potomac School, 99-30, in two non-conference high-school contests.

The victories upped the Knights’ winning streak to six.

Shane Lincoln had 16 points, five assists and five steals against Evergreen. Liam Koelsch scored 13, Makel Minor had 12, Darius Bivins had seven points and six assists, and Wyatt Norton had two points and 10 rebounds.

Minor made six three-pointers and scored 23 against Potomac School. Aiden Caulker made three threes and scored 14, as did Koelsch; Lincoln (six assists) and Justin Edwards each scored 10; and Bivins had nine points, eight assists and seven steals.

O’Connell resumes its Washington Catholic Athletic Conference schedule this week with home games on Tuesday, Jan. 14 against Bishop McNamara at 7:30 p.m. and against Gonzaga on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. O’Connell is 3-0 in conference play, Gonzaga 2-0.

The Knights did not play the last week, having two games postponed because of weather.

On Saturday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. on court No. 2, O’Connell will face Riverdale Baptist of Maryland (12-5) in The St. James 2025 MLK Classic at the St. James in Springfield. O’Connell is one of 16 boys teams in the four-day event, which also includes a 14-team girls competition.
