Gabriela Netwall and Ella Kaplan were big point-scorers in helping the Washington-Liberty Generals win the Liberty District girls track-and-field championship.
Each participated in multiple individual events in the high-school meet, and ran on the winning 4×200 relay in 1:48.66, as the Generals amassed 140 points.
Washington-Liberty last won the district title in 2022.
“Gabriela was amazing and fantastic,” Washington-Liberty coach John Bacon told ARLnow. “She is such an athlete to be able to do what she did.”
Netwall won three events: the long jump at 17-1, the shot put (33-11 3/4) and the 500-meter race (1:18.53). In addition, the junior was second in the triple and high jumps and third in the 300.
Kaplan won the high jump at 5-1, was second in the 55 hurdles, fourth in the triple jump, eighth in the long jump and 10th in the 500. The Generals’ other event winner was Alexis Morley-Lascano in the pole vault (9-9).
Aida Edsall was third in the 500 and 10th in the high jump; Elizabeth Rupert was second in the shot put; Morgan Brown was fourth in the 55 dash and 300, 11th in the long jump and ran on the winning relay; Addison Schimmell was fourth in the pole vault; and Alba Edsall was fourth in the 3,200 and 10th in the high jump.
Camille Walker was fifth in the shot, Heidi Kim was fifth in the 55 dash and ran on the winning relay, Therese Johansson was fifth in the 1,000, Mina Dowler sixth in the 3,200 and Anna Trucano was eighth in the 55 hurdles.
Others contributing for the Generals were Kate Floom, Sienna Williams, Annabelle Cordero, Emily Buckwalter, Maddie Brys and Caroline Kaplan.
The 4×800 relay was third and the 4×400 fourth.
“The girls had an all-around big day. We had a lot of contributors, and it’s a real credit to them for all of their passion and hard work,” Bacon said. “This team has a very good cast of assistant coaches that make a big difference.”
Also at the meet, the Yorktown High girls 4×800 relay won in 9:36.32. It was comprised of Elen Malloy, Ella Dunn, Molly Hardwick and Olivia Stafford.
In individual events, Malloy was third in the 1,000 and 1,600. Yorktown’s Sofie Keppler was third in the 3,200.
