In coming weeks, the four Arlington teams competing during the summer’s popular Northern Virginia Swimming League will learn their placements for 2025.
The seeding meeting to determine the setups of the league’s 17 divisions is scheduled for Sunday, March 2 at Key Middle School in Springfield. Representatives from each of the league’s 102 teams will be present to discuss and arrange the divisions, beginning at 2 p.m.
There are six teams in each division.
One thing seems certain about seedings for the Arlington teams. The Overlee Flying Fish again should be in Division 1, a place they have held every summer since 1962.
Overlee finished third in the division last summer with a 3-2 record.
The divisions of the Arlington Forest, Donaldson Run and Dominion Hills teams of Arlington are a bit more uncertain:
- Donaldson Run finished 2-3 in Division 1 last summer and will likely stay put.
- Dominion Hills was in Division 7 in 2024 with a 1-4 record and could fall into a lower category.
- Arlington Forest finished third at 3-2 in Division 9 and could stay put or move up.
Winning and losing records and the positions of finish in a division are factors in determining the next season’s positions.
Key dates for the 2025 summer season already are set, and can be found under the calendar section of the league’s website.
The NVSL’s five-week regular season dual-meet summer campaign is scheduled to begin on Saturday, June 14 at 9 a.m. The remaining meets will be at the same times each of the ensuing four Saturdays.
The regular season is followed by 17 divisional meets the morning of Saturday, July 19, followed by the league-wide individual all-star meet Saturday, July 26.
Squeezed between the Saturday regular-season meets will be divisional relay carnivals on Wednesday, July 2 and the league-wide all-star relay carnival on Wednesday, July 9.
NVSL also has a diving league, with five Tuesday-evening dual meets for each of the 48 teams. The opening meet is Tuesday, June 15. There is a season-ending all-star meet Sunday, July 27 at Hunt Valley pool in Springfield.
The eight diving divisions already have been set for the 2025 season.
