Arlington jumper, runner each fourth in Va. track & field meet

Fourth-place finishes were the highest recorded by Arlington athletes at the Virginia High School League Class 6 girls and boys state track-and-field championship meets, held March 3-4 in Virginia Beach.

The fourths were achieved by the Wakefield Warriors’ Travon Buckner in the boys triple jump (44-10.75) and the Yorktown Patriots’ Reid Dalley in the boys 1,600-meter run (4:20.74).

In the team scoring, the 6D North Region champion Washington-Liberty girls had the highest finish of an Arlington squad at 19th. The Yorktown girls were 20th and the Wakefield girls 35th.

Leading the W-L girls was the second-place 4×400 relay in 4:01.02. Individually for the team, Ella Kaplan tied for sixth in the high jump (5 feet) and Gabi Netwall was ninth in the 500 (1:17.91) and 11th in the long jump (17-10.25).

Also for the W-L girls, Alexis Morley-Lascano was 13th in the pole vault (9-feet) and Therese Johansson 15th in the 1,000 (3:04.66). The Generals’ 4×800 relay was 11th and the 4×200 15th.

The top finish for the Yorktown girls was a fifth by Olivia Stafford in the 500 (1:16.3). Ellen Malloy was seventh in the 1,000 (2:59.58), Kaiya Ovando 12th in the shot put (32-11) and the 4×400 relay was fifth.

For the Wakefield girls, Hosanna Connor was eighth in the pole vault (9-6) with Madeleine Wearing 12th in that event (9-0). Grace Armitage was 11th in the long (16-6.25) and triple (34-0.75) jumps.

In the boys team scoring, Wakefield was 24th, Washington-Liberty 25th and Yorktown 31st.

For Wakefield, in addition to Buckner, Chris Gilpin was 10th in the long jump (20-7.25) and 13th in the high jump (6-0), Liam Keish was 11th in the 1,000 (2:36.19), Noah Gunville 14th in the 3,200 (10:05.64) and Ben Chapuis 15th in the long jump (18-10.5).

Leading the Washington-Liberty boys were a fifth by Charles Gent in the pole vault (13-0), sixth by Ian Crowley in the 55 hurdles (7.74), ninth from Carson Owens in the 300 (35.5) and 12th by Ben Tahu in the high jump (6-2).
