Marymount men win third straight conference swimming crown

Led by five first-place relays and individuals winning six races, the Marymount University Saints won a third straight Atlantic East Conference men’s swimming championship.

The Division III team was first with 917 points, nearly 100 more than runner-up St. Mary’s College of Virginia.

Marymount entered the meet as the top seed, having finished 4-0 against conference opponents in regular-season competition.

In the championships, Ryan Faherty was the big standout leading Marymount. He won the 200 individual medley in 1:55.12, was first in the 200 freestyle (1:44.93), second in the 200 breaststroke and swam on winning relays.

Marymount’s Carsten Hicks won the 100 butterfly (49.98), was second in the 50 free and third in the 100 free. Alex Hain won the 200 fly (1:55.94), was runner-up in the 200 IM, third in the 100 backstroke and swam on relays.

Marymount’s Evan Pak won the 100 breast (57.57), was third in the 200 breast and fourth in the 200 IM, and teammate Nathan Bruley won the 200 back (1:53.48) and was second in the 500 and 1,650 free races.

The Saints’ Luke Claudy was second in three races. Garrett Peck was second in two and third in another. Daniel Caldwell was second in two races and fourth in another. Garrett Watson had a second and was third in two events, and Seth Reinsel was third in two along with a fourth.

Others with multiple top finishes were Mac Jones, Devin Coster, Logan Voigt, Ben Ingersoll and Gavin Keane.

Marymount swept the five relays, winning the 200, 400 and 800 free events and the 200 and 400 medleys.

Faherty, Watson, Hicks, Bruley and Pak made first-team all-conference.

Marymount Women 2nd in Meet: The Marymount women’s swimming team finished second in the conference meet, behind St. Mary’s.

Leading Marymount in the championships were all-conference swimmers Lillian Crawley, Sydney Runk, Ilana Hawkins, Miah Lopez and Cara Craig.

The Marymount women had a 5-0 regular-season conference record.
