Last year’s lack of offensive production has been turned around during the recent Washington-Liberty Generals’ winning streak.
During a three-game string, the high-school squad plated 28 runs in victories over the Marshall Statesmen by a 9-4 score, the Herndon Hornets in a 7-0 blanking and the South County Stallions in a 12-3 rout.
The Generals (5-2) amassed 32 hits in those three contests.
Alex Frymoyer, Sean Guffey and Robert Kilpatrick each had three-hit games. Guffey homered and had four RBI against Herndon. Frymoyer had three doubles and two RBI against South County and Guffey tripled and had two hits in that contest. Guffey added a double against Marshall.
Hank Thompson had a pair of two-hit games and Henry Gerber (two doubles) and Jack Keane each had two-hit contests.
Others providing hits were George Thompson, Sam Jackman (three RBI vs. Marshall), Noah Hitzig (two RBI), Jordan Jarrell and Kyle Matsko.
On the mound, Keane struck out 10 against South County and seven versus Herndon, Guffey fanned seven against Marshall and Alex Bartl struck out two in one inning of relief against Herndon.
O’Connell Pitcher Saves the Day: The Bishop O’Connell Knights (9-3) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 7-5 home win over St. Mary’s Ryken in a Washington Catholic Athletic Conference game.
In that victory, junior right-hander Shota Fogus entered the game with two runners on in the seventh inning and picked up a clutch save by striking out the final two batters. The second strikeout came with the bases loaded on a 3-2 count.
Fogus faced three batters. He allowed an infield hit on a potential double-play ground ball that hit the umpire, and he had the two strikeouts. He threw 15 pitches.
Kamari Chisolm tripled and had two hits and three RBI in the win. James Robinson had an RBI double and Chaz Walker, Chris Connolly and Truman Leckey each had a hit and one RBI.
In an earlier 14-8 loss to Highland, Walker doubled twice and had two RBI, Robinson and Leckey each had two RBI, and Walker McElwain doubled and had two RBI.
In the Knights’ 18-1 rout of the Carroll Lions, Leckey, Jack Woda and Noah Haught (four RBI) each homered and had two hits. McElwain also had two hits and had four RBI, and Will Headley added two hits.
