In recent Liberty District high-school baseball games between Arlington rivals, the host Wakefield Warriors topped the Washington-Liberty Generals, 8-5, then the Yorktown Patriots downed visiting Wakefield, 9-3.
For Wakefield (2-4, 2-3) against W-L, Cort Bringham was the standout. On the mound, the right-hander worked 6 1/3 innings of two-hit ball (one earned run), fanned five and walked two to get the win. With the bat, Bringham had three hits, with a double, and drove in three runs.
Adam Barrington had two hits, with a triple, and an RBI for Wakefield. Ben Crowe and Beau Branch each had one hit and one RBI, and Joseph Todd and Ryan Beck each had a hit.
Hank Thompson had a hit and two RBI for Washington-Liberty, and Alex Frymoyer doubled.
For Yorktown (4-3, 2-2) in its win over Wakefield, the Patriots had 10 hits. Owen Woodward led the win with an RBI single and double, and he stole multiple bases.
Aidan McCracken had a run-scoring single and three stolen bases, including a steal of home; J.J. Rizzo had a sacrifice fly and RBI single; and Jack Rubin, Leo Holt and Cooper Lawson had run-scoring hits.
Branch and Bringham (two RBI) each had two hits for Wakefield, which scored its runs in the top of the first inning. Barrington, Todd, Mason Bull and Peter Boerstling all had one hit.
The Generals (6-3, 3-2) bounced back from that loss to Wakefield to nip the Langley Saxons, 6-5.
Jack Keane had two hits and an RBI for W-L against Langley. Sean Guffey had an RBI double, Frymoyer doubled and had an RBI, Henry Gerber added a sacrifice fly and Robert Kilpatrick and Alexander Bartl singled.
Bartl pitched in relief, having a game-ending strikeout with Langley runners on first and third.
In another game, Wakefield had four hits, two each by Bringham and Barrington, in an 11-1 loss to the McLean Highlanders.
In private-school action, Arlington’s Bishop O’Connell Knights (11-4, 7-2) routed visiting Bishop McNamara, 13-3, then nipped host St. Paul VI Catholic, 2-1, in Washington Catholic Athletic Conference competition.
Chris Connolly (two RBI) and Jack Woda (four RBI) each doubled and had two hits against McNamara. Truman Leckey had a hit, two RBI and two stolen bases; James Robinson had a hit and one RBI; Aidan Kim and Noah Haught doubled; and Nick Ferrara added a sacrifice fly.
Mark Zonavetch started and pitched three innings, striking out four, to get the win.
Against Paul VI, Leckey singled home O’Connell’s two runs in the third inning. He and Robinson each had two hits, and Owen Spera tripled.
Shota Fogus (four strikeouts) started for O’Connell and pitched two innings, Drew Markey got the win in middle-relief work and Haught earned the save.
