A number of seniors who played for Arlington high-school football teams this past fall have made college commitments.
Among them is Yorktown Patriots’ quarterback Drew Morgan. He will play at Division III Kenyon College.
In 11 games this past season for Yorktown, Morgan threw for 1,948 yards and 16 touchdowns. He ran for 49 yards and five scores, helping the Patriots earn a 6D North Region playoff berth.
As a junior, Morgan passed for 654 yards and five TDs in nine games.
Two of Morgan’s top receiving targets during the 2024 campaign were wide receiver Finn Luca and tight end/runningback Max Troiano. Luca will play at Division III Dickinson College and Troiano at Division I Elon University.
Luca caught 48 passes for 926 yards and seven touchdowns while running for 295 yards and three TDs this past season. Troiano had 20 catches for 319 yards and five scores, and he ran for 382 yards and four TDs.
“Drew had a strong season, and Finn and Max were reliable targets for him,” since retired Yorktown head coach Bruce Hanson said.
Yorktown lineman Aidan Vroom will play football at Division I Duquesne University.
From Washington-Liberty High School, defensive players Ben Hughes and Sean Guffey have committed to play at Division I Sacred Heart University and Michael Barber at Division III Randolph-Macon College.
Those three helped W-L win the Liberty District championship and finish second in the region tournament this fall, as the team compiled a 12-1 record.
“They were all a big part of our success the last two years to help us finish 19-1 [combined regular-season record],” Washington-Liberty coach Josh Shapiro said.
Head coaches Todd Sabatino of Bishop O’Connell and Clarence Martin of Wakefield told ARLnow a few of their players have not yet finalized decisions about where they will play college football.
“We will have some who will commit, but not just yet,” Martin said.
Sabatino said starting quarterback Graham Deaton is still weighing his options.
Yorktown coaching staff assembled: In other football news, new Yorktown head coach Alec Hicks has pretty much finished assembling his coaching staff for the upcoming season.
Tom Norton will be the offensive coordinator with Evan Ruffner the defensive coordinator.
“We are moving forward very well,” said Hicks. He took over for longtime head coach Bruce Hanson, who retired at the end of the season.
