Reaching the milestone of 100 career wins came quickly for Marymount University head baseball coach Mike Cassidy.
Cassidy, who took the reins of the Saints’ Division III program to start the 2022 campaign, earned the century mark for victories when Marymount defeated Atlantic East Conference rival Neumann University, 22-6, Sunday (April 13) at Barcroft Park.
At the time, the win upped Marymount’s overall record this season to 18-11.
Marymount won 29 games in Cassidy’s first season, 22 his second and 31 last year.
Including a game today (April 19), the Saints have nine regular-season contests remaining this season.
Cassidy has been a part of the Marymount staff since the program’s inaugural season in 2014, serving as an assistant coach before taking the helm in 2022.
Last season, Cassidy and his assistants earned the Atlantic East Coaching Staff of the Year award.
In the 22-6 victory over Neumann, Jordan Dickson was 5 for 5 and drove in four runs, and Ryan Cuadros had three hits. Jack McCarthy and Andrew Schaeb each had two hits with a double, and each had two RBI. Quincy Via had two RBI and Jonathan McMath had a hit and two RBI.
David Muirhead went the distance on the mound and struck out seven to get the win in the seven-inning contest.
Marymount leads the Atlantic East Conference with an 8-1 record.
NOTE: Earlier this season, Marymount’s baseball team earned its 200th victory in program history … Cassidy is a native of Burke, attending Lake Braddock Secondary School as a three-sport athlete in baseball, football and wrestling. He then played college baseball at Averett University in Danville.
