The Bishop O’Connell Knights and Washington-Liberty Generals had no individual winners but enjoyed some top finishes at the PR Northern Virginia Invitational track-and-field competition held at South Lakes High School.
The meet included many of the top girls and boys athletes throughout the area.
For Washington-Liberty, Ian Crowley had a busy boys meet. The senior placed second in the 110-meter hurdles, was third in the 300 hurdles, fifth in the triple jump and sixth in the high jump.
Senior distance runner Emmett Engelhardt also had a runner-up finish in the 3,200 boys race and Benjamin Tahu was fourth in the high jump.
Nico Docena also had a busy meet for the W-L boys. He was fifth in the 110 hurdles, 13th high jump, 18th in the triple jump and 21st in the 300 hurdles.
Carson Owens of the Generals was seventh in the 100 dash and ninth in the 200, Tommy Fowler was 25th in the 400, Elijay Purdy 27th in the 800 and Morgan Fritz 27th in the 3,200.
Leading the Bishop O’Connell boys was Avery Mosley with a third in the 200 and 14th in the 100. Johnny O’Donnell was eighth in the 400 and Cameron Bowser ninth in the 100. Jayse Brefczynski was 23rd in the 800 and the 4×800 relay was sixth.
Bowser and O’Donnell each have run faster than 50 seconds in the 400 meters this season. Only one other O’Connell runner has broken the 50-second mark in that length during the past decade.
Bower is ranked as the second fastest boys runner in the state in the 400.
Leading the Washington-Liberty girls was Gabriela Netwall with a second in the long jump and third in the 200, with Ella Kaplan second in the 300 hurdles and fifth in the 100 hurdles.
Morgan Brown was ninth in the long jump and 10th in the 100, Therese Johanson was 10th in the 800, Fiona Hendry 16th in the 100 hurdles and 22nd in the 300 hurdles, Emily Buckwalter 19th in the 800 and Camille Walker 18th in the triple jump.
Washington-Liberty’s 4×400 relay won in 3:59.47.
For the Bishop O’Connell girls, Ciara Blivens had the highest finish with a seventh in the discus, and she was 14th in the shot put. Alyssa Kunigonis was 10th in the discus and 13th in the shot.
Moria Kinsella was 14th in the 300 hurdles and 23rd in the 100 hurdles, Lauren Smith was 17th in the 400 as was Anastasia Ahad in the 1,600, Gabi Jordan was fifth in the long jump and Sadie Smith 23rd in the 1,600.
