A week after applying for a permit to replace the vacant Giant in Lyon Village, Sprouts Farmers Market has confirmed plans to open a new grocery store in Arlington.
“We are happy to share that we will be bringing fresh, better-for-you products to the Arlington, VA community in 2026,” a representative told ARLnow.
The representative declined to provide further details, including the address of the planned store. However, Sprouts’ recent permit application calls for “tenant improvement of an existing grocery store into a new grocery store” at 3115 Langston Blvd.
The nationwide supermarket chain has three other Northern Virginia locations in Herndon, Manassas and Leesburg. Its stores place an emphasis on fresh produce and organic goods.
Giant closed at the Lyon Village Shopping Center last February after 60 years as the plaza’s anchor store. The space has remained vacant since.
Other businesses in the strip mall include The Italian Store and a CVS.
Eventually, Arlington County’s Langston Boulevard Area Plan suggests that the center should be redeveloped as part of a larger project to build denser housing along the busy road.
Elsewhere on Langston Blvd, developers have submitted plans for new apartment buildings that track with the county’s vision for the residential and commercial corridor. None of them relate to the Lyon Village Shopping Center, however.
“It is up to property owners to decide whether and when to redevelop their property by-right or through a special exception process,” Plan Langston Boulevard Project Manager Natasha Alfonso-Ahmed told ARLnow.
