Three runners from Arlington win races at track-and-field meet

Two seniors for the Washington-Liberty Generals won boys races and a freshman for the Yorktown Patriots was first in a girls event at the Cassel’s XBC Track Experience meet at Chantilly High School.

For W-L, Carson Owens sprinted to victory in 10.78 seconds in the 100-meter dash and Emmett Engelhardt won the 1,600 in a speedy 4:13.47.

They helped the Washington-Liberty boys team place fourth in the standings.

Yorktown’s Molly Hardwick was first in the freshman girls 1,600 in 5:16.47. She also placed fifth in the varsity 800 race.

The W-L boys had a number of other top finishers, like Ian Crowley’s second in the 110 and 300 hurdle races and Charles Gent’s runner-up in the pole vault.

Nico Docena was fourth in the 110 hurdles, Jamal Sullivan fifth in that same race, Pierce Wardian sixth in the pole vault, Zachary Meehan sixth in the long jump, Henry Brys eighth in the 1,600 and Tomas Moran Uriona ninth in the pole vault.

Docena also was 11th in the triple jump, 13th in the 300 hurdles and 23rd in the long jump. Crowley was 13th in the 100 dash. The 4×100 relay finished seventh.

For the Yorktown boys, Weston Marshall was third in the 100 and Brendan Schmitt sixth in the 800.

Emmett Leachman was eighth in the 3,200 for the Wakefield boys.

Also for the Yorktown girls, Ellen Malloy was fourth in the 800, Kaiya Ovando was fourth in the shot put and seventh in the discus, Ga’najah Williams-Taylor was ninth in the 400 and Zoe Hoang was 10th in that same race.

For the Washington-Liberty girls, Alba Edsall was ninth in the 1,600 and Emily Buckwalter ninth in the 800.
