The Wakefield Warriors continued a solid boys soccer season with a recent 2-1 victory over the Yorktown Patriots in an all-Arlington clash.
That victory, coupled with 4-1 win over Marshall in another recent match then a 2-1 loss to the Washington-Liberty Generals in another all-Arlington match, gave Wakefield an overall record of 7-4-2.
Against Yorktown,there was no score at halftime. In the second half, Wakefield began controlling the game and creating scoring chances. Goals eventually were scored by Lohamba Okoko and Erik Vasquez Ayala, off an assist from Vajk Dawson.
Wakefield also defeated the Herndon Hornets 2-1 in another Liberty District contest. Brady Keefe scored the Warriors’ first goal, then Masis Davitian added the game-winner in the final two minutes off a pass that split the defense from Graysen Colglazier.
Wakefield’s defense and goalkeeper Andrew Jackson secured the win the rest of the way.
“We have been playing well. Our only two losses were against highly-ranked teams, McLean and Alexandria City,” Wakefield coach Eddie Carrasquillo told ARLnow.
Against Marshall, Vasquez Ayala scored two goals and Emmanuel Ashley and Jerry Felix Lopez had one each. Colglazier, Vajk Dawson and Bruce Gonzales Cordova had assists.
Another recent Wakefield victory was 1-0 over Chantilly in overtime. Okoko assisted Vasquez Ayala on the score. Jackson earned the shutout in goal.
A recent tie for Wakefield was 2-2 against South County. Gonzales Cordova had a goal and an assist for the Warriors. Ricky Perez had the other goal, and Vasquez Ayala added an assist.
Wakefield began the season with a 4-0 win over Edison. Colglazier, Vasquez Ayala, Diab Al-Kraydi and James Paris scored goals in that contest.
Other victories were over Jefferson, 4-3, and Justice, 4-0.
Gonzales Cordova and Colglazier are top goal-scorers for Wakefield, with Vasquez Ayala the assist leader.
