Bri Lencz created many positive memories on the George Mason University women’s softball field during four years of high school. And now, the Bishop O’Connell senior will become a member of that college team next year.
Lencz made the commitment several months ago to play Division I college softball for George Mason.
“I’ve already made some good memories on this field. Next year I hope to start making more with different teammates over the next four years,” Lencz told ARLnow.
This spring, Lencz was a starter for the third straight season for the O’Connell team that won the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference tournament-championship game on the George Mason diamond. She was the starting and winning pitcher.
The right-hander and staff ace worked five innings, allowing three hits with five strikeouts and no walks.
With the bat, the first-team all-WCAC pitcher had a two-run single in the sixth inning that gave her top-seeded team key insurance runs in its 6-3 victory over St. Mary’s Ryken in that final. She also had a sacrifice bunt.
Lencz also was the starting and winning pitcher in last season’s conference final at George Mason. She threw a complete-game six-hitter with four Ks, and added an RBI single.
Lencz retired the final seven hitters of the contest, fanning the last three. With the bat, she added an RBI single.
As a sophomore, Lencz was O’Connell’s starting second baseman in the conference final at Mason. She went 2 for 3 with the bat, scored a run and had a defensive assist.
Lencz was on O’Connell’s team as a freshman, but did not play in the conference final at George Mason.
