Firefighters battled a house fire in the Arlingwood neighborhood near Chain Bridge this morning.
Fire departments from Arlington, Fairfax County and other jurisdictions responded to a report of “a large fire in the garage” on N. Richmond Street around 9 a.m., according to scanner traffic. The blaze quickly spread to the attic and other parts of the structure.
A family was inside the home and tried to extinguish the fire but it spread too quickly, initial reports suggest. They watched tearfully from across the street as heavy smoke billowed from the home and firefighters cut holes in the roof to douse the flames. A high school “class of 2025” sign could be seen in the front yard.
One firefighter was reportedly injured and transported via ambulance to a local hospital. The extent of their injuries was unclear but was not believed to be life-threatening.
Smoke was starting to thin as of 9:30 a.m., and the fire was said to be mostly out just before 10 a.m.
