Woman rescued from early-morning house fire in Alcova Heights

Firefighters rescued a woman from a second-floor window while responding to a house fire in Alcova Heights early this morning (Tuesday).

The Arlington County Fire Department responded to the blaze on the 3700 block of 8th Street S. around 5:45 a.m. First responders described a fire in the attic and smoke coming from the roof.

Firefighters used a ladder to bring the woman down and she was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, ACFD said in a social media post.

The victim said she was the only person in the house, along with two dogs, according to scanner chatter.

By 6:50 a.m., firefighters had extinguished the blaze and were working on overhaul and ventilation, ACFD said in social media.

“Crews have started to clear the scene,” the agency wrote in a final update around 8 a.m. “Fire Marshals office will be investigating the origin and cause.”
