As the first leaves start to turn yellow, a full slate of community activities and entertainment is planned in Arlington this fall.
Upcoming events include the annual Clarendon Day and Rosslyn Jazz Fest, as well as cultural celebrations like the Festival Latinamericano this October. Here’s a preview of some of the local happenings planned next season.
Festivals
Labor Day Cookout at Arlington Beer Garden
When: Monday, Sept. 1 from 3-9 p.m.
Tickets are on sale for this large outdoor cookout for guests age 21 and over, which promises games, food vendors and live DJs.

Hispanic Heritage Community Festival
When: Saturday, Sept. 6 from 1-4 p.m.
This festival at Tyrol Hill Park promises music, snacks and attendance from local officials, including members of Arlington County Police Department and county staff.

Rosslyn Jazz Fest
When: Saturday, Sept. 6 from 1-7 p.m.
The lineup of jazz, funk and soul artists at this free annual festival includes Grammy-nominated band Southern Avenue, the New Breed Brass Band and The Sensational Barnes Brothers.

Fall Fest at Arlington Beer Garden
When: Saturday, Sept. 6 from 4-10 p.m.
Another 21-and-over event at the Arlington Beer Garden will feature live music by DJ Tunes.

Salsa Social in Clarendon
When: Sunday, Sept. 7 from 4-7 p.m.
Clarendon’s outdoor shopping mall will host a free salsa dance class, and some surrounding restaurants plan to serve a featured summer cocktail.

Clarendon Day
When: Sept. 27 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
Live music, bounce houses for kids and a variety of vendors are expected at this annual street festival near the Clarendon Metro station.

Festival Latinamericano
When: Oct. 3 from 5-9 p.m.
This annual festival at the Arlington Mill Community Center aims to “showcase the rich tapestry of Latin American art, food, and culture in Arlington County” with help from local artists, chefs and performers.

Rosslyn Fall Fest
When: Oct. 4 from 1-6 p.m.
More details are yet to come on this annual event, which typically includes live music and seasonal refreshments along with hard cider and beer tastings.

Fall Heritage Festival
When: Oct. 11 from 1-4 p.m.
This family-friendly event at the historic Walker Log House invites attendees to “step back into history” with old-time activities like butter churning and candle dipping. Registration is required.

Performing arts highlights
Signature Theatre
Notable performances this fall include Play On!, running now through Oct. 5; Strategic Love Play from Sept. 23-Nov. 9; and Fiddler on the Roof from Nov. 4-Jan. 25.

Special events happening this fall include appearances from comedians Michael Rapaport and Shuler King, along with a live podcast recording by stand-up comedian Justin Martindale.

Paw-casso Party
When: Tuesday, Sept. 9 from 5-7 p.m.
Pet portrait demos, Polaroid pet photos and do-it-yourself dog art prints are all part of this free celebration of four-legged friends, hosted by the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington. There will also be vendors with pet-related goods and live music.

Native Plant Sale
When: Sept. 20 from 1-4 p.m.
Preorders have opened for the county’s fall native plant sale, where residents can browse and purchase a variety of herbs, shrubs and trees at Fort C.F. Smith Park. Orders must be placed by Friday, Sept. 12.

Anime USA Convention
When: Oct. 10-12
This annual convention for all things anime culture and gaming is taking place this fall at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City.

National Black Poetry Day
When: Oct. 17 from 7-8 p.m.
Further details are to come about this artistic celebration, which will include poetry readings and Q&As with local Black poets at the Walter Reed Community Center.
Trunk or Treat
