Upgrades planned for volleyball court and playground at Doctor’s Run Park

Today (Friday) is the last day to submit feedback on planned upgrades to the volleyball court, playground and paths at Doctor’s Run Park.

The county is planning to resurface the existing volleyball court in the park, located at 1301 S. George Mason Drive in the Douglas Park neighborhood.

Other proposed changes include swapping out the play equipment, improving accessibility and circulation on the paths, adding a “small shade structure” and improving furnishings like picnic tables and park benches. The feedback form asks respondents for their thoughts on the style of the playground, the surfacing of the volleyball court and other amenities and features.

The proposed design has attracted some criticism from the advocacy group Sustainable Mobility for Arlington County, which has called for further changes to improve connectivity with a nearby bike route.

The design process for the park is expected to continue through next summer, followed by County Board action and the start of construction in 2028.
