Arlington’s twice-yearly collection event for old electronics and household hazardous materials is returning this weekend at Wakefield High School.
The spring Environmental Collection and Recycling (E-CARE) event will take place rain or shine from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at 1325 S. Dinwiddie Street.
As always, a wide range of hazardous materials are accepted, including automotive fluids, batteries, fluorescent tubes, paint products, propane gas cylinders, smoke detectors and lawn and garden chemicals.
Acceptable electronics include computers, printers, keyboards, scanners, copiers, cellphones and televisions.
Materials should be in their original containers or properly labeled. The event is open only to Arlington residents, who should bring an ID to verify residency.
Due to space constraints this season, E-CARE will not be accepting donations of old Halloween costumes or bicycles and bike parts.
Almost all drop-off is free, although the county charges a $20 fee for cathode ray tube televisions and a $15 fee for that kind of computer monitor.
The rest of the year, household hazardous materials may be dropped off at 565 31st Street S. Available hours are from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday by appointment only, or from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday without an appointment.
