After decades of work on Arlington transportation, infrastructure and development projects, Kimley-Horn is establishing a permanent home closer to the clients, communities and places it serves.

The national planning, engineering and design consulting firm has opened a nearly 4,000-square-foot office at 1700 N. Moore Street in Rosslyn. The office brings together professionals in transportation, aviation, development services and related disciplines, with plans to expand into a 13,000-square-foot space in the same building as the team grows.

“For decades, we’ve had the privilege of working on impactful projects throughout Arlington,” said Heather Timothy, PE, of Kimley-Horn. “Opening an office in Rosslyn gives us the opportunity to be even more connected to the clients and communities we serve, invest further in local relationships and become a lasting part of Arlington’s future.”

Kimley-Horn currently supports Arlington County through contracts and planning efforts involving transit, multimodal transportation, engineering, asset management and capital projects. Its local work includes the Arlington County Master Transportation Plan, ART Zero-Emissions Transit Plan and ART Microtransit Pilot Program, along with projects involving Columbia Pike and the planned second entrance to the Crystal City Metrorail station.

The company is also supporting improvements near Fort Myer Drive and Wilson Boulevard. Employees will now work within walking distance of projects intended to improve mobility and access, as well as the streets and public spaces surrounding the new office.

That proximity is one reason Kimley-Horn chose Arlington. The Rosslyn office creates more opportunities for face-to-face collaboration with County leaders, public agencies, developers, architects, universities and community partners. The company also plans to participate in industry events, host educational programs and lunch-and-learns, support local initiatives and share its expertise in conversations about Arlington’s future.

These efforts align with Arlington’s commitment to practical innovation and continuous improvement. From exploring cleaner transit and more flexible transportation services to strengthening connections between neighborhoods and activity centers, Arlington offers companies opportunities to apply their expertise to real community needs.

Arlington Economic Development and the Rosslyn Business Improvement District supported Kimley-Horn throughout the office-opening process. Their assistance helped the company establish its presence, make local connections and identify opportunities to contribute to Arlington’s business and civic life.

“Kimley-Horn’s decision to establish and grow its presence in Rosslyn is a meaningful investment in Arlington,” said Anna Nissinen, Chief Economic Development Officer and Director of Arlington Economic Development. “The company is bringing specialized talent and expertise closer to its clients and projects while creating new opportunities to collaborate with local businesses, institutions and community partners. We are looking forward to helping Kimley-Horn become even more connected to Arlington as it continues to grow here.”

“We’re excited to welcome Kimley-Horn to Rosslyn. Our connectivity and access to the greater Washington region have long attracted industry-leading organizations, and we’re proud to add Kimley-Horn to a growing community of businesses helping shape the future of the region,” said Mary-Claire Burick, president of Rosslyn BID. “As Rosslyn advances transformative projects like the Fort Myer Drive and Wilson Boulevard improvements, their expertise and firsthand perspective will be an invaluable asset.”

As its Arlington office expands, Kimley-Horn anticipates hiring engineers, planners, designers and other professionals with an entrepreneurial spirit and an interest in helping communities thrive. The firm is particularly interested in candidates who value collaboration, innovation, community engagement and exceptional client service.

The company’s long-term vision is to continue investing in people, partnerships and resources that will help it serve Arlington and the wider region. For Kimley-Horn, the new office is more than a place to work. It is a base for becoming more involved in Arlington while contributing to the transportation, infrastructure and development projects shaping the community’s future.
