JUST IN: APS employee arrested for allegedly seeking sex with student

Earlier: An Arlington Public Schools employee has been arrested after allegedly soliciting sex from an underage female student.

A 31-year-old instructional assistant assigned to Wakefield High School was arrested today (Friday) on a charge of taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a supervisory or custodial relationship, according to police.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe there could be additional victims,” the Arlington County Police Department said in a press release. “Anyone who has additional information related to this investigation or has had past inappropriate encounters with this suspect is asked to contact Detective S. Yanda at 703-228-4244 or [email protected].”

Information may also be provided anonymously through the Arlington County Crime Solvers hotline at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).

The Arlington County Police Department’s Special Victims Unit has arrested and charged an Arlington Public Schools employee with a sexually-based offense and is seeking possible additional victims.

On November 8, police initiated a criminal investigation after receiving information that an Instructional Assistant assigned to Wakefield High School had solicited sex from a juvenile female student. As a result of the investigation, [The suspect], 31, of Lanham, MD was arrested on November 15 and charged with Virginia Code § 18.2-370.1 Taking Indecent Liberties with a Child by a Person in a Supervisory or Custodial Relationship.

Additional information regarding the investigation is restricted from release in accordance with Virginia Code § 19.2-11.2.

This remains an active criminal investigation. Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe there could be additional victims. Anyone who has additional information related to this investigation or has had past inappropriate encounters with this suspect is asked to contact Detective S.
