Clarendon 7-Eleven shutters as company plans hundreds of closures

A 7-Eleven has closed for good in Clarendon.

A sign indicating the convenience store’s closure was on display at 3137 Wilson Blvd last Friday, an observer noted on Bluesky. The sign directs would-be patrons to another 7-Eleven a few blocks away.

“Please visit our nearby 7-Eleven store, located at 3000 Washington Blvd,” the posting said.

When ARLnow visited the store yesterday (Monday), the entrance was blocked off with caution tape and work to remove supplies appeared to be happening inside.

The Clarendon store opened in June 2016 at the former site of a Public Shoe Store that had been in the retail bay since 1938.

Last month, 7-Eleven announced plans to close more than 400 locations, or about 3% of its North America portfolio. The chain cited declining sales, particularly in cigarettes.

The corporate office for 7-Eleven did not respond to a request for comment.
