After a tough stretch of eight games in 14 days, including playing five of the stronger teams in the area, the Yorktown Patriots girls squad has a 2-6 overall record opening the 2024-25 basketball season
Yorktown has lost to top high-school teams like the Madison Warhawks, 49-39, South County Stallions, 46-34, Oakton Cougars, 64-46, Chantilly Chargers, 48-42, and defending 6D North Region champion Centreville Wildcats, 70-42. The Patriots’ wins were over the Westfield Bulldogs, 52-36, and Osbourn Eagles, 47-12.
Against Madison, senior Helene Lydon led the Patriots with 16 points. Senior Victoria Carcillo added seven, junior Sam Donahue six and sophomore Ainsley Lomas five.
At the Dec. 14 Braylon Meade Classic at Washington-Liberty High School, Yorktown lost to South County. Junior Eleanor Mahshie led the Patriots with 13 points. Carcillo added nine and sophomore Elena Debevec eight.
Yorktown faltered late in a 47-39 loss to the Jefferson Colonials. Mahshie had 13 points, Lomas seven.
In the season-opening loss to Centreville, Debevec led the way with 10 points. Mahshie had a team-high 13 points versus Oakton and Shiplett led Yorktown with 13 against Chantilly.
In the win over Westfield, Mahshie had 20 points and she scored 10 against Osbourn.
Carcillo, Debevec, Donahue, Lomas, Lydon, Mahshie and Shiplett are returning players. Freshman Molly Cooper also has been a key contributor this season.
