Yorktown wrestling team busy in dual meet and tourney action

The Yorktown Patriots were busy in recent tournament and dual-match wrestling action — with mixed results.

In a dual high-school meet, Yorktown recorded three pins and two technical falls in a 44-34 loss to the Marshall Statesmen in Liberty District action.

Recording pins for Yorktown were Saeed Almazrouei at 106 pounds, Niel Alleman at 157 and Adam Mouhidine at 175. Earning technical falls were Ian Cochran at 113 and Cambyses Khani at 120. Basheer Hadi at heavyweight won by forfeit for Yorktown.

Yorktown wrestlers were pinned six times in the match and lost once by a technical fall.

At the recent Joe Verciglio Memorial Tournament at Chantilly High School, Khani won the championship at 120 pounds with a 5-0 record.

Khani had three first-period pins, had a major decision and a regular decision. His performance helped Yorktown finish 10th in the team standings.

Also for Yorktown at the tournament, Alleman was fourth at 157.

Among Yorktown wrestlers competing were Ian Cocheran at 106, Tyson Clark at 126, Nathan Batuscheck at 132 and Elijah Varona at 150.

For the Wakefield Warriors at the tournament, Jaden Delgado was fifth at 215 and Anthony Morales was seventh at 165.

The Patriots have another district dual match scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 15 against the host McLean Highlanders, then host a quad meet on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m.
